Zen Shiatsu

Zen Shiatsu is a derivative form of the Japanese therapy Shiatsu developed by Shizuto Masunaga, a graduate of the Japan Shiatsu College. It is a form of shiatsu particularly popular in the UK and USA, after his book, originally entitled Shiatsu was translated into English in 1977 and retitled Zen Shiatsu. In fact, the name "Zen Shiatsu" was not coined by Masunaga himself but by Wataru Ohashi, the co-author of the English version.

Zen Shiatsu is a form of Meridian Shiatsu. A difference between Zen Shiatsu and earlier forms is that Zen Shiatsu uses fists, elbows, and knees as well as the traditional method using only thumbs and palms. Zen Shiatsu is considered to represent a return to Chinese Taoist practices such as Do-In and Ankyoa
